Art Carney Actor
October 28th, 2010

Residents of Kearney, Nebraska…pronouncing your city name correctly?…?
It’s spelled, “Kearney”, so I thought it was pronounced “KERNEY(slient “a”)”, but I was repeatedly told that it’s pronounced “CARNEY”(like veteran actor/”The Honeymooners” co-star Art Carney)…
Why is that?…I don’t want to hurt the town’s feelings, but i don’t want to sound like a dummy either…
Thanks for your help…
You are correct…Carney
Here’s a better one Norfolk is pronounced Norfork!?!
“Hey, I went to go see your FORKS the other day”
Even the “forks” who live there cannot explain this one to me.
