What’s the best martial art for a really small person?

I’m 5’0″. I want to learn a way to immobilize attackers quickly. Pressure points ftw? In any case, which martial art is best for someone who’s a lot smaller than his/her opponent?

I don’t want to be dependent on a weapon. Pepper spray won’t do me much good if I’m caught by surprise. Also, guns and knives and bats have the same problem plus I can’t carry them on me. I need to be able to do it anywhere, anytime with my bare hands.

Suggestions?

There is no best Martial Art period, Size, body shape, or gender DO NOT MATTER. Contrary to popular belief anyone can learn and be effective with any Martial Art when taught by a competent instructor in a realistic way. Style is not nearly as important as quality instruction.
Now a sport based class will not teach you pressure point or Kyoshu strikes, you will have to find a GOOD traditional class for that. Now even in a good Traditional class kyoshu techniques are not taught to beginners. Remember martial arts are not a destination but a life time journey, you will not learn everything overnight.

A few things to avoid when choosing a school:
*Promise of any rank in a set amount of time – People learn at different rates, rank should be based on skill not time.
*Long term or “black Belt” contracts- any thing over 1 year is suspect.
*Required testing at preset intervals- again rank progression should be based on skill not time in grade.
*Any Black Belt or Leadership clubs
* Any School with 12 year old Full Black Belts
*Any ATA school
