Choosing Bedroom Colors
A bedroom is and individualized area for relaxing, and whether you spend time lounging around or reading a good book, the bedroom must be an area that is well decorated. It is confusing to select the best color for your bedroom, and looking at samples of wallpaper and paint may not be enough to help. Read over the following tips and advice before you decide on colors for your bedroom. Selecting the right colors for your bedroom is necessary in order to design a haven of relaxation.
Determining the Ambience that You Want to Convey
Never choose a color based on visual appeal alone. You may end up regretting the color choice later on down the road. Before investing money and time on paint or wall covering it is a good idea to take into consideration the mood that you wish to exude in the room. Color has the power to change the mood, and in a bedroom the appropriate color choice is of the utmost importance.
Ideal color choices for a bedroom are cooler shades such as lavender, green and blue; these colors also create a relaxing tone. Select a light hue for a relaxing effect.
Energizing and inviting, red is a good selection of color for a bedroom. To create a haven for romance, select rich red wall coverings.
Do you want to get out of bed full of life and prepared to begin your day? Choose a lemony color of yellow. Selecting a lighter shade of yellow will have the effect of making the bedroom feel airy and naturally bright.
Decide if You Want to Change the Look of Visual Space
Remember that the perception of space as well as the vibe of your room is affected by your color selection. Is the bedroom that you are decorating smaller than you would like? Choose paint or paper in a lighter cool shade. Lend visual height to the ceiling by painting it white, or expand the appearance of the whole area by painting the walls in similar light cool colors. With the right color choice the bedroom will look larger than ever and it will have a relaxing feel.
Is the ceiling in the bedroom taller than you would like it to be? Choose deep blue or another deep color to bring the ceiling visually downward. One benefit of dark colors is that they work to hide abnormalities while making the room feel cozier.

If you are still confused about what color to choose when decorating a bedroom, look around the room and choose an accent shade that matches drapery, bedding, and flooring. Most of the time, rooms are acessorized according to wall color; using what you have is a good idea unless you have plans to change everything from ceiling to floor. Select an appropriate hue and your bedroom will have a completely different feel without breaking the bank.
Tip from Designers
To ensure wall coverings or paint are the right choice, invest in a small sample or a single roll of wallpaper rather than enough to complete the entire bedroom. You can cover a poster board and look at the large sample in various positions and at different times during the day as natural lighting changes. This will provide a better idea of how the bedroom will look when complete, and you will more than likely end up with a hue that suits your style as well as the mood you want to convey when decorating.
