The Twenty First Century Soccer Mom
The 21st century soccer mom is uniquely qualified and has many advantages. The role, however, remains the same. The improvements and advances in technology have created a better and more productive environment for the soccer mom. The greater number of choices has its drawbacks, as well.
One often quoted complaint of the mom on the go is here general feeling of being out of touch with the rest of the world. This problem has been easily solved with the vast array of personal digital assistants and smart phones. Furthermore, products such as the latest Kindle from Amazon allow the mom to have access to daily newspapers and periodicals. This e-reader is also useful for reading recently published books.
An important aspect in the life of a soccer mom or any mom is recording their children’s youth for posterity. This can now be easily done with the use of cameras and camcorders. What was once a scrapbook album can now be a digital video library. In fact, there are digital frames that specifically made for displaying digital photos.
The soccer mom spends at least half her time in the home. Here the design and maintenance aspects are of vital importance. The recent surge in home improvements has had the added benefit of producing a great variety of choices at affordable prices. Hardware stores now target the soccer mom’s for do it yourself projects such as adding home decor accents. There are a myriad of options available for walls, paints, flooring, and windows.
The other integral part of any soccer mom is the mobility or transportation. The choices are varied here, as well. She can select from vans, SUVs, mini vans, hybrids, and everything in between. The mini van has also seen many changes, such as electronic door sliding and in-seat televisions. For security, many come with twenty four hour road side support and GPS. No doubt, the soccer mom is better equipped.
After all the cooking, cleaning, and intellectual stimulation, there has to be time for relaxation and reflection. There are many options for the mom on the go to engage their children to increase personal time. There are play date options, which is a more modern convention. For the more techno savvy, the choice of video games and equipment can also be essential for keeping the children engaged. This is a far cry from times past where the children would often hang out on the playground.
Given all the products and services produced for the soccer mom, they have become a heavily marketed consumer group. Soccer moms also talk to other soccer moms about certain products and activities. This word of mouth recommendation can make or break almost any production line. Regardless of the product, however, the once insular homemaker has been converted into a technologically savvy marketer’s dream.
