A panoramic photo of St. Louis?
I was born in St. Louis, Mo., one of the most fascinating cities in the United States. When I was ten years-old, in 1926 (I’m now 95), my family moved to California with me. I’ve not been back to St. Louis in thirty-one years (1980), for a family funeral.
I want to visit again, but I am a “disgusting old man” (my daughter says) in bad health. I remain fascinated by the city, and am trying to find online a photo of the waterfront, as it looked between 1910 and 1930, or until the arch (a monstrosity!) was built in 1966.
Can any of you St. Louis Yahoo-ers send me a link to such a photo, black and white or in color, of the St. Louis waterfront, as if taken from the Illinois side of the rive back then? Thanx!
If you just google St Louis Riverfront 1920 you will find quite a few photos that you might be interested in. Your best bet though would be to contact the History Museum in Forest Park.
www.mohistory.org or 314-746-4599. The museum could give you a list of books that would depict this earlier era on the riverfront and also could provide you with some additional websites to check out.
