Planning Your Holiday Near To Central Park
If you’re visiting New York, one of the destinations that no doubt will be top of your must visit list is none other than Central Park. Opened in 1859, Central Park encompasses 843 acres or 341 hectares of space across the heart of Manhattan in New York City.
Approximately 25 million people visit the park every year and after a few minutes of walking through it you will quickly begin to realize why.
Central Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, a famous landscape architect of the 19th century. While central park may appear to be completely natural in design, the truth is Olmstead landscaped the vast majority of it, including the park’s lakes and ponds.
Today Central Park is popular with runners and walkers all looking to enjoy a spot of fresh air in the middle of Manhattan. The park is also home to two ice skating rinks, one of which is a swimming pool during July and August in the summer, several walking tracks, Central Park Zoo and Conservatory Garden, wildlife sanctuary, running track and an outdoor theatre.
Visiting New York, no doubt you will want to stay close to Central Park to take advantage of its beautiful scenery and wonderful walking opportunities.
Thankfully, there are numerous hotels located either next to Central Park or easily within walking distance. From Central Park it’s easy to explore some of the popular nearby areas of New York.
The Upper West Side for example, located to the west of Central Park, just above Midtown and below Morningside Heights is a great area to spend a day exploring. Some of the most popular attractions in this area include the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Metropolitan Opera House, the American Museum of Natural History and the New York Historical Society.
Booking a hostel in this area will give you easy access to all of these destinations, many within walking distance of each other. Of course, if you decide to stay in a different part of New York, The Upper West Side is easily accessible on the underground.
On the other side of Central Park, The Upper East Side is home to popular attractions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Jewish Museum, City of New York Museum and the Guggenheim Museum.
The area is slightly more residential than the Upper West Side, although there are still numerous hotels and other accommodation facilities available.
Deciding which side of Central Park to stay in can be a difficult decision, however regardless of where you want your luxury hotel New York to be there are guaranteed to be plenty of attractions on your doorstep and all of the others only a short train ride away.
