The 13 Staff In Chrysler Motors Scandal Are Fired
A scandal was caused not too long ago by a whistle blower report concerning workers from a Chrysler plant. A number of Chrysler plant staff were caught consuming and using illegal drugs during their lunch break close to the plant. Someone gave a tip to a news station in Detroit, who filmed the men partaking and then the story broke. After the men were caught, a scandal started to brew, which Chrysler Motors swore to resolve. Chrysler acted easily. Not long after the report aired, the people in question were all put on suspension. Chrysler has fired 13 of the participants and placed two more on suspension.
Sipping on more than petroleum
An anonymous tip was given to WJBK Fox 2, a Fox affiliate in Detroit, as outlined by USA Today. It concerned staff from the Jefferson North Chrysler plant. The plant in question assembles the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The tip was about what workers did on their lunch breaks. Evidently, a small group would go to a local recreation area to drink beer and smoke marijuana. The news crew filmed them repeating the ritual for five consecutive days, until finally the anchor on location asked them about what they were doing. The men were followed back to the plant by the investigative team. The President of the United States personally visited that very plant just days before the report came out, which makes it all the more embarrassing.
All but 2 canned in the case
Chrysler initially placed 15 workers on suspension. Due to agreements made between Chrysler and also the United Auto Staff, proper procedure has to be let go before everyone can be terminated. As outlined by Automotive News, 2 remain on suspension. The remaining 13 were fired. Quality control and build inspection is done by automation, so the quality of the vehicles is not affected as outlined by Chrysler. The UAW insists that those that were terminated are not indicative in any way of the quality of the bulk of their members.
Extremely hazardous
There is no excuse for going to work intoxicated. Not even executives get a “three martini lunch” anymore. Workplaces have to be safe. That is especially true of industrial online websites. Drinking and taking other illegal intoxicants is certainly contrary to safe practices.
