City Skyline
For all you people who live in New York City. Can you see the skyline from an Upper East Side pent house?
I’m writing a book, and my character lives on the upper east side, pent house, floor length windows. would someone be able to see either the new york city skyline, or central park from there. possibly both? let me know thanks!!
No, you cannot see the “skyline” but if you are on a high enough floor, you can look down and see the other buildings. It can be a spectacular view. But it also depends on where you are on the Upper East Side. My mother in law lives on the Upper East Side and she has a great view, but not of Manhattan! She looks right out on the East River and can see that entire end of the river and all of Roosevelt Island. A river view is a classy thing to have for a Manhattan apartment!
To have a “skyline view” you must be outside of Manhattan. So Brooklyn Heights has a great skyline view, as does Long Island City in Queens. Interestingly enough, the Fort Greene Housing Project in Brooklyn has great skyline views of Manhattan. So do many buildings in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn. And there are great skyline view from several smaller cities in New Jersey as well, I believe. And of course, Roosevelt Island has a terrific view of the skyline.
You could certainly see Central Park from an Upper East Side apartment if you were high enough, on the correct side of the building and anywhere near the Park. Remember, the Upper East Side goes all the way from 5th Avenue, past 1st Avenue and all the way to East End Avenue. That’s pretty far East. It’s only the western part of the neighborhood that’s near Central Park.
My advice? Don’t write about NYC if you don’t know enough about it. You’re sure to get it all wrong! Write about what you know.
