A female resident of route 1, Bridgewater has time and again placed the beauty of Shenandoah Valley on canvas. This artist, however, has been painting for 36 years of her life, and does not just carry oils and easel to mountain ridges or rolling cornfields. Her items are usually sold through a Hagerstown furniture dealer in Maryland. When her neighbors and friends ask her for a painting, she does it for them. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of all orders due to their sheer numbers. She usually gets quite a few rights around Christmas time.

In Rockingham County, she has a nice old lady neighbor who gave her some painting lessons when she was 13 years old. Every afternoon she paid 25 cents to the old lady for a lesson. Using a drill and a paring knife, her mother made her a small pallet from a lightweight board. It was her first and she displayed it. The old pallet was smeared with paint all over, but you could easily see the note attached to it that says about how it was made.

The family also built a family room onto their home with materials from their church that was torn down about six years ago. As you sun streaks across the glass wall that covers an entire face of the room, you could see the river streaming near their house. According to the artist, the glass was used in order to allow the natural outdoors inside the house.

She was troubled about finding something that would fit the room as she was making the mural. Three quarters through completion she had to sand paper the painting because her kids didn’t like how the painting fell to the foliage in rusts, gold and reds, as well as the tithe painting which didn’t complement the room. To give full emphasis on the mural, which tells people about all her love for painting, she decided to never put anymore paintings around the house no matter what, and besides, anything else will just be ignored.
