The Very Best Ten Independent Horror Movies
Independent film making has produced some of the greatest creature features ever, and some of the highest grossing box office hits in almost any genre. Most of the best horror movies ever made have been independent horror motion pictures that used green screen and green screen backgrounds. Most of the directors of these films have gone on to greater magnificence outside the independent horror arena. Directors like Ethan and Joel Coen (The Big Lebowski), Sam Raimi (Spiderman), and many more have started out in the independent horror circuit to find themselves having great Hollywood careers. Below is a listing of the Top Five all time independent horror flicks.
5. The Evil Dead. Directed by Sam Raimi (Spiderman), this particular movie was produced on a small spending budget it appears and the effects are kinda cheesy, but it is still one of the most horrifying flicks ever made. Starring Bruce Campbell who went on to star in the sequels (not very good) this 1981 production lives on with a popularity and followers everywhere.
4. The Blair Witch Project. In 1999 director Eduardo Sanchez surprised the whole world with this Sundance entry about a group of documentary film maker students missing in the forest wilderness of Maryland. Taken on a shoestring funds and utilizing handheld cameras, many film goers just failed to comprehend it or hated the constant movement of the video camera. Fanatics who did love this independent horror cult classic discovered the idea along with storyline horrifying.
3. The Ring. Featuring Naomi Watts and directed by the aptly named Gore Verbinski, this particular remake of the Japanese cult classic Ringu was a lot more than just another American remake. This particular movie significantly exceeded the original in mood, tension, frightens, and most importantly, great acting. Launched in the year 2002, this particular motion picture has created an entire multitude of Japanese scary film remakes including the Grudge, and The Eye. The Ring will terrify your pants off and get you to think once more about picking up your phone. An excellent independent horror motion picture and one to catch.
2. Paranormal Activity. Launched in the year 2007 this really is an additional low, small budget independent horror flick filmed with a handheld video camera. Directed by Oren Peli and starring Katie Featherstone and Micah Sloat, it shows the story of a young couple that’s haunted by a devil that attacks them while they’re resting in their suburban San Diego house. Highly daunting and definitely not for the weak of heart. Starts slow but finishes powerful. Do not miss film}.
1. Night of the Living Dead. In 1968 new film director George Romero presented us this particular nightmarish vision of the deceased strolling the earth that stays to this day the most frightening independent horror motion picture ever produced. Starring a cast of unknowns it started a wave of zombie flicks that continues to today with motion pictures such as “28 Days Later” and the spoof “Shawn of the Dead”. Certainly not for the faint of heart.
