Are there any unique characteristics about the french spoken in France?
Yes, the French spoken in France has unique characteristics in the sense that it is different from the French spoken say in Quebec, Martinique, Haiti or in past French colonies. Though the French spoken outside the hexagone has a large common base, it can vary substantially from the French spoken in Metropolitan France, because the language in those countries has evolved in different directions and been influenced by different factors.
There also are some local dialects that still exist within France, even though the central government has tried to unify the language all over the country by banning them. Certain regions intermingle “official” French with local expressions or turns of phrase. There also are some local accents which are particular to certain regions, for instance in the South they tend to pronounce syllables which are mute in other regions.
