Coach Youth Soccer: 5 Action Ideas To Exciting Drills
Understand this! In order to coach youth soccer, it is always difficult to think and create new drills that are interesting as well as useful for the kids. In teaching soccer, the biggest difficulty is to keep thinking about new ideas that make the training for kids interesting.
What follow are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These help them not just focus on the game, become proficient in soccer, but also enjoy the game.
Teach the boys dribbling and shooting: This is a straight-forward drill that all the players can take part in at the same time. Instruct the players to stand on a single goal line. Now, disperse the balls all over the ground. Then, tell the kids to move with the ball towards the opposition’s goal in an attacking position. They should shoot the ball as soon as they can.
This drill helps them build stamina, confidence, and also improves their dribbling skills. As the kids do not face any opposition while moving forward, it reflects their style of playing soccer.
How to pass the ball: Ask the kids to stand in a line at a far-away corner of the field. Start counting till 3 and when you finish, order them to run to you as fast as they can. While they are running towards you, they also need to steal the ball from the other player who is kicking the ball. When you shout stop, the ball must be passed by the player who has it to someone else.
In order to coach youth soccer, these games help the kids display their abilities in passing and dribbling. At the same time, they learn the skill of clinching the ball from others which is also vital.
Touch and Go: It’s an exciting game that kids enjoy playing. The kids should get in two lines distant from the goal post which is less than 40 meters away. Besides, the goalpost should be defended by the goalie. Situate yourself in between these two queues.
Now pass the ball to one of the queues and instruct them to shoot or pass the ball using only one touch. The intention should be to switch the ball into goal. Continue practicing the game after the goalie has returned the ball.
Swap your goalies in between the practice meetings if there are more than two goalkeepers. This sport enables players to perk up their shooting skills through team effort. The goalkeeper becomes skilled at protecting the ball from converting to a goal.
Keeping the ball with you: Players get to learn the skill of moving ahead with the ball protecting it from the opposite team. Engage two players, one protecting the ball and the other attacking it. Guide them to play their respective roles and win points every time any player wins over the other.
