The History Of Ultimate Frisbee – A Pastime Esteemed By Thousands

Since the year 1967 individuals have been enjoying and playing the pastime of ultimate frisbee. While just hanging out, a group of college students came up with the sport. Lots of people already played frisbee as a past time, but these kids wanted to make it a lot more competitive and entertaining for themselves. One of these students named Joel Silver transferred to another college in Lafayette in 1970. He introduced the game to the new friends he made at this campus as well.

It wasn’t until 1972 that ultimate Frisbee competitions began taking place among colleges. People truy loved the pastime of Ultimate Frisbee and although there were only a few teams in those first years, the thrill of the pastime spread and more teams developed. Shortly after in the year 1975, more than 20 teams were competing against each other. Only 4 years later it had spread so far that the teams had to be split up regionally so that local teams could compete. The top teams would then play each other for the title of the year.

Although it was very popular amongst college students, they are not the only people who were playing. There were clubs all over the land by the year 1976 and even more so in some of the sunnier parts of the country like California and Florida. It became a regualr thing to unearth individuals playing ultimate frisbee on the beaches while taking advantage of the beautiful climate. Spectators would frequent these beach games as well, lots of times in crowds that were quite large, all for the joy of seeing who came out on top.

It wasn’t long after this, in the year 1980 to be exact, that an association of players was put together known as the Untimate Players Association. They recognized the separate teams that wanted to take part in ultimate Frisbee. They also set up official ultimate frisbee rules of the pastime that were to be followed in the regional tournaments they hosted. The winners from these regional games would move on to the final round. The association would then recognize the winning team as national Ultimate Frisbee champions.

Ultimate Frisbee these days can be found all over the world being played in these types of competitions. The greatest popularity of the game can still be found at the university level. There are also plenty of ultimate Frisbee clubs that take part in it as well. There are a number of high schools and grade schools that are providing the game for their students as a form of physical fitness in their P.E. classes. Many students develop quite a love and interest in the game through these young introductions to it. As these kids age, they have a tendency to move into college level frisbee, or move into playing ultimate frisbee with local clubs.
