The Significance of Posters
Whether digital or vinyl, posters are here to stay and will only be as effective as the artwork you put in. From wanted signs to street signs, posters inform, educate, annoy and even sell. It is because of these properties that posters are one of the most common and preferred media for marketing and advertising.
Not all posters are meant to be tacked to a wall. Those with meager budget make their posters out of ordinary paper then stick these thin posters to walls, trees, and even moving objects. Thus posters have been known to be “the poor man’s advertising media.” On an apples-to-apples comparison, the poster beats electronic billboards any day in terms of sales, exposure, investment and ease of transporting.
The modern poster dates back to 1870 when lithography was invented and mass production became available. From being an information dissemination tool, the poster evolved to become the art itself. In the 1960s, popular art became fashionable and the messenger became the message; posters became the art itself. Images of Che Guevara or Chairman Mao became posters of art depicting the tumultuous political struggle of the times. Not only were these pop art posters eye-catching, they would stir the emotions as well.
In 1990s corporate America, affirmation posters became the fad, one which is still evident in most offices around the world. Affirmation posters are those that contain inspirational “can do” messages designed to encourage office workers to do their best in their work. Affirmation posters usually contain inane images, which would mean nothing unless you read the text below.
In business, posters are indispensable tools in marketing and advertising. If you are a business owner, posters are your biggest ally in generating sales. All you need is a good design and the right poster printing company. The result will translate to dollars and cents for your growing business.
