Top 10 Largest Priced Paintings Ever Sold
Most of us are aware that fine art is often astonishingly expensive, so much so that only the richest and most powerful people in the world could possibly hope to own it. Th genuine fact is, most people would likely never have the kind of cash that is necessary to obtain priceless works of art and that even entire organizations often do not have the funding it would likely require to own these remarkable pieces. When it comes to oil paintings, some of these are priced astonishingly high, well into the tens of millions of dollars and these are not even of artists who have been dead for centuries. In fact, the highest priced painting ever sold was acquired at a price today that would likely be over $150 million and this was a work by renowned American Abstract Expressionist artist Jackson Pollock. The name of that super overpriced painting was “No. 5, 1948″ and it surely set a new standard for art, but coming in close behind was Willem de Kooning’s master piece “Woman III” which sold for only a few million less. Coming in at number three is a work by Gustav Klimt entitled “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I”, a truly amazing piece that incorporates a fantastic deal of metallic gold colour, something that undoubtedly suggests it should command a high price.
The top selling paintings in the world are obviously not works that most of us could possibly hope to afford, but fortunately, due to their high price they are likely to be preserved for most years to come. The rest of the top 5 most costly paintings are Renoir’s “Bal du moulin del la Gallette” and Van Gogh’s “Portrait of Doctor Gachet”.
