SC 2 Strategy Guide: PvZ
Welcome to my StarCraft 2 Protoss vs Zerg strategy guide – I want to show you the best way to counter Zerg tactics and strategies.
First of all I want to talk about the fast Muta tactic since it’s one of the most effective Zerg strategies out there. If you have played StarCraft 1 you will know how dangerous these winged Zerg can be. Their mobility can grant your opponent the control over the map and trap you inside your base.
I want to show you two Anti-Muta strategies. Mass Stalkers are one way to deal with Mutas. Your rule of thumb should be: Don’t engage if the number of Mutas is higher than the number of Stalkers. It’s basically game over if the mass of Mutas overwhelmes your Stalker army – you will never get back.
The Blink technology allows you to kill off many more Mutas with your Stalkers. By the way: Blink Stalkers also make a great timing push in the StarCraft 2 Protoss vs Terran match-up as well!
The second option is to build Phoenixes. However, Phoenixes are only good against Mutas so they become worthless once you defeat the Muta army. Get enough Phoenixes to deal with the threat but not too many to weaken your ground forces.
There are other Zerg tactics you have to defend against. The Zerg almost always tries to use Speed to surround and flank your army. Always bring an Observer with you and kill off Creep Tumors. That will throw the Zerg back immensely! He needs the creep for his bonus speed and will have a hard time fighting you if you keep the Creep tumor count low.
Now the last Zerg tactic: The Nydus worm. Believe me, more than one Zerg player already won a match just by using the Worm to attack the Protoss from two different flanks. Splitting up your forces is a no-go which will cost you the game. You should react like you were playing a StarCraft 2 Protoss vs Protoss match – keep your army together. Let him take one place of the map, sacrifice it, but destroy him in return.
