Bling Out Your Truck – Choose 24 In. Wheels
Face it – 24 inch rims are HUGE! And with good reason, as they’re made for autos that are equal to their size, such as the SUV and Range Rover. However, people being the way they are about the “bigger is better” theory, you’ll often find many of them using the rims on smaller vehicles to make them stand out – and stand out they do, especially to those who watch them as they glide past on the roadway. But, since they’re really not designed for the average car, what is the best way to install 24 inch rims and tires – so you don’t end up tipping it over during your “attention-grabbing” roll down the red carpet? And, what kinds of cars can you put them on to make YOUR debut?
Well, let’s get the risk and safety issues out of the way first. Keep in mind your average car isn’t designed to accommodate rims of a larger size and to just hang them in place of the old ones, without first customizing the tires – is to ask for trouble in the form of a big accident caused by an inoperable vehicle. This is where “low profile tires” come in to play and it involves having modified tires made for your vehicle that enable it to accept the giant rims.
With that out of the way, here are a few cars to consider for your “big rim-worthy” automobile list. (And please remember that your idea of “worthy” may not be the same as that of the person sitting next to you.)
A Station Wagon – Why not take the wholesome memory of the family car icon of the Fifties’ and Sixties’ to a whole new level for modern times? Get some custom tires made for your station wagon and create a sky-high, high-rise by adding huge rims – take the “boring” out of the family vehicle equation. Then go on a multiple family camping trip and shock your more reserved companions as you come bouncing down the dirt road – now appearing to be on equal terrain with the “baddest” of sporty SUV’s, thanks to the giant rims. You can rest assured that the 1960′s and 1970′s writers of the family-oriented comedy shows NEVER thought of putting their characters in a family wagon like this.
The AMC Gremlin – This poor little car needs to get the last laugh for once – if only to make up for all the taunts it’s taken over the years. What better way for you to help it thumb its nose from a loftier position then by adding big wheels? Then plan to take off down the street with your stereo blasting and laugh at all those other boring-looking car owners, who’ve always held themselves above your humble little car in the automobile pecking order.
Chevrolet Chevelle – This is one car that always looks GREAT with big rims and there aren’t many people who would disagree. In fact, this classic is meant to sit high up in it’s regal position – just resting long enough before it takes off at the speed of light, blowing all the other cars off the road with it’s huge engine – and HUGE rims that spin so fast the car becomes nothing but a blur to the spectators watching it.
The Hearse – Yes, it’s a wacky idea, but one that might bring a bit of life to a very somber occasion. If the person who’s being remembered was a bit “out there”, then chauffeur him to his send-off in a car that would have been right up his alley. Of course, you will have to know someone with a hearse who doesn’t mind switching out tires and rims for the special occasion. But if you can pull it off, you may start a trend – and, either way, the sight of a hearse with huge gleaming rims carrying the guest of honor to his final resting place is something that won’t soon be forgotten.
So as you can see, you can put big, bright, shiny 24 inch black rims on many different types of cars – in fact, any car you’d like. Just remember to get special tires made for your car, so you can wear those rims safely – and, so the splash you make isn’t the sound of splashing water as your vehicle locks up and rolls over in during a rain storm because you didn’t err on the side of caution!
