In the space of a couple months ahead, the London 2012 summer Olympics will start, and the flamboyant nation of Britain will show its lively persona to the other countries of the world . It is scheduled to take place in the most energetic side of east London from the 27 th July to the 12th August. London will be the first city to host the modern Olympics three times in all history. London is a very rich city in terms of resources, and by adding more infrastructure to the community, there can only be more benefits to come out of such advantageous glories .
A lot of expectation is on the horizon for the Olympics 2012. Hospitality became the prime priority once London won the Olympic bid, and even today they are investing lots of time and money into their infrastructure in order to make the event as smooth-flowing as possible. ‘Sustainability’ was the underlining factor that won it for the UK – voters were impressed by this word’s implementations, and how London would be able to make the most out of their assets, rather than build one-off buildings with no long-term use. There are more options open to London with the election of being 2012′s host to the world, with transportation and energy resources being laid out and improved for the masses . More land means more plantation and buildings, thus more resourcing and places of interest being created to cater for the boom in population and visitors .
The London Olympics boasts the saying, “Live as One”, and by going through with their development they can accomplish this motto . At the last Summer Olympics, Beijing held the helm with their motto of ‘One World, One Dream’, and the old tradition of the Olympic Flame being passed across for the handover of ceremonies at the end . The Torch itself is a symbolisation of when Prometheus stole fire from Zeus, and handed this marvel to the mortals of the Earth . In the 1936 Berlin Olympics, sports administrator Carl Diem proposed that the athletes should exchange hands with the torch, and over the years it became more adapted and was made into a more honorary (and televised) ceremony. What Manchester and Birmingham couldn’t achieve, London did. By gaining the chance to host the 2012 Olympics, London has comfortably retained their title as the capital of the UK.
