Using Reclaimed Timber In New Construction And Remodels
Reclaimed lumber has a very strong following these days, the reason for this is because many individuals such as tradesman are choosing to build their houses with this lumber as well as remodelling.

Reclaimed lumber is really a more affordable choice, as this timber would be very costly new. Producers and developers that are eco-aware prefer to use reclaimed wood as it is the eco-friendly choice. Using the reclaimed lumber cuts down on the amount of damage to the forests whilst providing superior timber for building.

Primary forest area is reduced globally by 60,000 square kilometers per year, so industries can source timber for trade. This is the equivalent size of a small country, like Ireland in Europe. Tree density in primary forests ranges from 50,000-100,000 trees per square km, so 3 billion to 6 billion trees annually are presently getting felled for use in building and fuel. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and is a non-profit international organisation which has been created to provide assistance in helping to manage our planet’s forests. FSC indirectly or directly addresses problems such as deforestation, illegal logging and global warming and has positive impacts on economic development, environmental conservation, poverty alleviation and political and social empowerment. The organization encourages the use of reclaimed timber wherever possible, so that we can protect our forests and maintain the environment around us.
Reclaimed timber is recognized as top of the line timber as it has strength and natural beauty and as an added bonus it is regarded as a ‘green’ product.
