The Hunt For The Stanley Cup Continues
Over the weekend, contention for Stanley Cup glory continued. 8 teams now are facing off. San Jose leads the Detroit Red Wings by two games, the Canadiens and Penguins are tied at one each, the Canucks lead the Blackhawks by one, and the Boston Bruins also lead by one over the Philadelphia Flyers. The playoffs could be anyone’s game, though it seems some have more work to do than others. Even giving a psychic a cash advance won’t tell you who will win at this point.
Detroit Red Wings out for Stanley Cup number 14
The Detroit Red Wings are out for number 14 in Stanley Cup victories, though their start in the NHL Conference Championships has not begun well. San Jose was seeded number one, and Detroit was seeded fifth. San Jose won its fifth Division Championship and is pursuing its first Conference Championship. For the moment, San Jose leads two games to none, having won by four goals to three in San Jose. Detroit will host the next two games at Joe Louis Arena, on Tuesday and Thursday, on May 4 and May 6. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Canadiens versus the Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins are tied at one all with the Montreal Canadiens, the team with more Stanley Cups than any other. The first game in Pittsburgh was a victory for the home team, beating the Canadiens 6 to 3 on April 30. Two days later, the Canadiens exacted revenge in a 3-to-1 victory over Pittsburgh, with heavy emphasis on the goal-tending skill of Jaroslav Halak. Halak already has had a banner year, including leading Slovakia to fourth place in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Game 3 will start coverage at 7 p.m. ET, in Montreal.
Canucks and Blackhawks
Saturday May 1 was the first meeting of the Blackhawks and the Canucks. The Blackhawks were slammed by the Canucks, scoring only 1 goal in the third period to the Canucks’ 5 in the first two. Game 2 will be at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, May 3.
Bruins and Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers trail the Boston Bruins by one game to none. Boston nabbed a close overtime victory on May 1. May 3 will be game 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
