5 Great Dramatic Performances by John Travolta on Satellite TV
However, he has always been up for a more serious and at times intense character. Travolta never disappoints in whatever type of role he has, but he gets to expand his range when he handles the less typical star roles. Here are five excellent dramatic performances now playing on satellite TV that showcase Travolta and all his acting range.
1. Taking of Pelham 1,2,3. Fans of the original Pelham might have scoffed at the pairing of Travolta and Denzel Washington with Tony Scott at the helm. However, viewers are in for a treat in this one. Travolta seems to be genuinely enthused by the evilness of his character. Whether it’s barely noticing the murder of his partner or not thinking twice about whacking another hostage, he’s definitely not the kind of guy you want to count out. Nonetheless, Travolta doesn’t let his character become totally despicable – watch him show off his talent once again in this new release on satellite TV.
2. Face/Off. There are many things to like about this picture, not least of which is Cage’s over-the-top performance. How about two big stars getting the opportunity to play one another in the middle of a movie? This little twist had to seem appealing to Travolta and Cage, and it is definitely one of the highlights. Travolta again seems to become inspired when playing bad and lets his dark side come out in full force. See this picture uncut on HBO in high definition.
3. The General’s Daughter. Leave the unenthusiastic reviews of this film behind – if you are a Travolta fan, you will see him at his best. James Cromwell offers his typically brilliant supporting work, but it is the impudence of Travolta which catches the spotlight soon enough. Fans of army base intrigue will not be shortchanged, either. Even when you think you can stop paying attention, The General’s Daughter will bring you back.
4. Swordfish. The first thing you might hear about with Swordfish is the topless Halle Berry, but there is an interesting picture going on around the star and her celebrity sideshow. Specifically, Travolta is out ahead of the pack with another convincing bad-guy performance. His facial hair is creepy; his devil-my-care attitude even more frightening. 5. Blow Out. If you are reviewing Travolta’s career alongside that of Brian De Palma, you’re bound to be drawn to Scarface and Saturday Night Fever before landing on Blow Out. If so, you’ll be missing out on one of the big films in the career of both. Travolta is locked into his role, while De Palma is dong his best Antonioni-meets-American pulp act. Wait for a showing on the Independent Film Channel in HD to see this one in the proper format. Fans of either the director or star will not be disappointed.
