Chuck Berry In Good Condition After Nearly Collapsing In Concert
A recent event took place at a Berry live performance, which had enthusiasts of the rock legend afraid for his health. He is doing fine, though. Berry had to be assisted offstage, after almost passing out at a piano bench. However, he is now in strong condition. The 84 year old living legend is relaxing at his home.
At Chicago live performance, Berry nearly faints
Before getting to “Auld Lang Syne”, accounts ABC, he fell ill. Berry started to slump over while sitting down at the electric piano onstage while performing. Berry was helped offstage after he waved for help. A half hour later, he came back so followers would know he was okay. Then the dance step he made famous, “duck walk,” was done by him. The “duck walk” has been copied by lots of people, perhaps most famously Angus Young of AC/DC. That whole evening, Berry was feeling very ill. Then he went the next day to his home in St. Louis.
Rescheduled concert for Berry enthusiasts
Yahoo News reports that the concert is sold out for the rescheduled day of January 19. Berry is said to be active and in excellent health at 84 years of age, however he simply was fatigued. Berry had performed 2 concerts in NY City on New Year’s Eve and flew to Chicago for a show the following night.
Still going strong
Not several musicians have the longevity and influence of Chuck Berry. He has toured and recorded since the 1950s, and artists like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Ted Nugent, AC/DC and legions of others have claimed Berry as an influence. The song “Johnny B. Goode” contains perhaps the best known rock ‘n’ roll guitar riff ever recorded, and other hits like “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Maybellene,” among others, are all part of the bedrock of rock and roll. Chuck Berry is as close as one can get to being able to personify the genre.
