Dandelion: Crop For Wellness
Dandelions are recognized with regards to their dazzling yellow blossoms that are later replaced by a round fuzzy sphere, sending seeds floating away with the breeze. Some people view this flower as a persistent weed that can invade even a pristine lawn.

DANDELION LEAVES

Early spring is the best time to pick leaves because this is the time of year (before it blooms) when the plant’s energy is targeted on fresh growth. Tonics, tea, soups and salads are all improved by these. Dandelion leaves excellent no matter whether enjoyed fresh or dried for storage.
Submerge the leaves in a container of water and swirl them gently. Allow the leaves to soak while the dirt settles to bottom. Carefully remove the leaves from the water in order that the dirt isn’t stirred up into the water. Rinse them with running water and put them in a strainer bowl to drip-dry.
FLOWERS
Blooms are best harvested before the hottest part of the day, in the middle to late morning hours, after the dew has gone. The blooms keep closed under gloomy skies. The flower heads close up at the first indication of rainfall. The flowers also shut at night (or early evening) and open once more when the plant senses the sun’s rays.
For simple harvest of blooms, tug only the bloom and it will pop off at the point where the green leaves at the base of the bloom (the sepals) connect with the stem. Soak and wash these utilizing the same technique as for the leaves.
DANDELION ROOTS
Dandelion roots can be eaten fresh or dried. The nicest quality roots mature in well-tilled ground. They form a thin, carrot-shaped tap that is twisted and fragile, milky white in color and seated deeply in the dirt. Severed remains of the root left behind at harvest will reproduce and generate new plants.
The roots are least bitter in mid summer when it is preferred to gather them. The nicest specimens are collected from moist, free soil in shady places. Roots are less potent during frosty weather and should not be collected during that time. Nevertheless, it isn’t a concern to gather during rainy conditions. A long trowel or fork can be used to lift up with care and steadily. The beneficial juice of the roots is going to be lost by bleeding if they are severed or damaged during harvest.
Dandelion roots could be dried out intact, or they may be sliced in 3-6 inch sections if they happen to be large. It takes about 2 weeks for these roots to dry. When dehydrated, the roots appear dark brown and shriveled with lengthwise creases that wrap around the diameter that can be decreased to one half inch or less. Adequately dehydrated roots will be brittle enough to break whenever bent, exposing a white inner surface. A tightly covered container will shield them from insects and vermin; keep them in a dry area in order to eliminate mold. In a storeroom, dried out Dandelion roots keep for a single season.
