Tree Poster
Looking for Family Tree Maker program that well identify duplicate names and not download them?
I have almost 3000 names on my family tree but some of my GedCom files are duplicates. When I download them I do not want to have these names duplicated and would also like a program that well make an actual tree that I can print poster size.
There is no program that can download a GEDCOM and omit duplicates; technology hasn’t come that far yet. However, Roots Magic, Family Tree Maker and Legacy all have a merge function where you can manually delete duplicate names from your tree after you download a GEDCOM file.
Roots Magic has a free called Roots Magic Essentials version that you can down load to get a feel for how you like the program and it has many features of the full-blown software except you can only print report to your screen. You can download it at: http://www.rootsmagic.com/
Legacy Family Tree has a free standard edition which has almost as many bells and whistle as the deluxe edition and they have their own printing service for wall charts. You can download it at: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/
Family Tree Maker doesn’t have a free trial but it is tightly integrated with Ancestry.com so if you build you tree on Ancestry.com you can keep the program and the online tree in sync fairly easily. Plus, Ancestry.com has a printing service that provides poster size family trees like the one you want or you can print it directly from Family Tree Maker on several pages, which will not look as nice. http://www.familytreemaker.com/Pages/Overview/Features.aspx
I personally like the opportunity to try software before purchasing whenever possible.
