The London Experience: Abundant Architecture, Marvelous Museums, And Spectacular Shakespeare
My most memorable vacation that I ever went on was to London. Before I left, I spent a day adding additional pass port pages, packing my power converters, and exchanging currency. I had always wanted to go to London. Filled to the brim with culture and history, I became engulfed in this ancient yet novel city. Unlike some of the most populated cities we know today, London is refreshingly void of steel skyscrapers and smoggy factories. The week I spent there only knew sunshine and all I needed was to throw on a jacket. Everyday was something completely different than the one before, and as soon as I can get another opportunity, you can find me in London.
A lot of people don’t travel because of all the preparation that it involves. When I was waiting to get a new U S passport, my mom and I were talking about all the things that I still needed to do. I wasn’t worried. My mom said she dreaded traveling for that very reason. Don’t let the preparation of traveling keep you from going on the vacation of your dreams. I didn’t let it stop me, and now I have what seems like a lifetime of amazing memories.
London is the place to go if you love art in all its forms. Even the street art was beautiful. The huge stone buildings, the tall shining statues, and the abundance of music made going to London a completely consuming experience. Even just walking down the streets of London is like walking through a living, breathing museum. I spent a day at the Victoria and Albert Museum, or just the A and V Museum. Historical artifacts that span hundred or even thousands of years all sat in a huge room, and I had to walk around multiple times to make sure I saw it all. Exhibits of all kinds – from fashion to ancient, crumbling artifacts – were on display, and I left feeling pretty insignificant in comparison.
My stop the next day was the Tate Modern Museum. I was little hesitant about a modern art museum, because I generally wasn’t very impressed with modern art. However, upon entering the monstrous building, I was instantly impressed. Getting to not only look at but interact with the art pieces made the Tate a very different kind of museum experience. Some of the pieces held very strong messages, and I left the museum feeling inspired.
My absolute most memorable experience of the trip was getting to go to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. I have an obsessive love for William Shakespeare and his work, and getting to see them performed in their element was just amazing. Since I had successfully raided the gift shop, I was a little low on money, so I opted to see the play as a “groundling.” The play was breathtaking, and although my feet hurt a little, getting to stand at the foot of the stage was incredible.
If there is somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, whether it’s London, Paris, or Tokyo, just go. Something is calling you there, and probably for good reason. So get yourself a new passport or add pass port pages, pack your bags, and be ready for the trip of a lifetime.
